Originally from Barcelona, Spain, Miguel Sánchez spent much of his life exploring the world before making Costa Rica his home in the late 1990s. Drawn by a deep love for the ocean and the natural world, he quickly felt at home in Costa Rica, where the Pura Vida spirit resonated deeply with his values and lifestyle.
Miguel began his journey here as a scuba diving instructor on the mainland, later joining a dive boat team at the legendary Cocos Island National Park. It was in this remote and awe-inspiring marine sanctuary—where nature reveals itself at its most intense and pristine—that Miguel experienced a turning point. Surrounded by thriving biodiversity, he saw the profound potential for meaningful connection between humans and the natural environment. Since then, he has devoted his life to creating and fostering these kinds of experiences.
Over more than two decades living in Guanacaste, Miguel has witnessed firsthand the region’s rapid transformation—from growing development along the coastlines to the impact of rising sea temperatures on coral reefs, and the expansion of infrastructure projects. He considers himself fortunate to have explored the province in its more untouched days, venturing through its beaches, coves, rivers, mountains, forests and volcanoes. Beyond the national parks, he has explored numerous private lands in search of hidden gems and ways to make these places more accessible to the public.
In 2005, Miguel founded a charter boat company in the Gulf of Papagayo, designed to help people experience the incredible marine biodiversity of the area. This project, still active today, laid the foundation for his reputation as a leader in immersive environmental tourism.
An adventurer and visionary at heart, Miguel has become a respected figure in Costa Rica’s high-end adventure tourism industry. He specializes in curating bespoke experiences for individuals and companies, helping them design and grow programs that connect guests with the environment in thoughtful and impactful ways. In 2016, he helped create the Papagayo Explorers, and since then has kept an eye on the Área de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG) and Santa Rosa National Park—two regions he considers the crown jewels of the country.
In 2019, Miguel launched his own consulting firm, dedicated to high-end, environmentally focused tourism development. Through this venture, he provides strategic guidance to projects that seek to balance luxury, sustainability, and a deep appreciation for Costa Rica’s natural heritage.
Miguel brings to the board a unique combination of field experience, visionary leadership, and a lifelong commitment to conservation and education through adventure.
