Introducing Pseudohemihyalea rexhamiltoni!
Abundant in the volcanic upper elevations of Área de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG), this striking moth has long been known to science by its DNA barcode—or BIN number—but until now, it did not have a formal scientific name.
That has finally changed. Pseudohemihyalea rexhamiltoni is named in honor of Rex Hamilton, Chair of the Board of the Guanacaste Dry Forest Conservation Fund (GDFCF), in recognition of his enthusiastic commitment to GDFCF and his deep support for the conservation of ACG.
We are delighted to see Rex’s name become a permanent part of ACG’s extraordinary biodiversity—and deeply grateful for the energy, dedication, and enthusiasm he brings to our work.
